Kentucky's Laws as they pertain to the CBD Oil Industry in 2020

Have you heard all the outrageous claims surrounding CBD oil these days? It seems like it will cure every ailment out there. But how can you know what is real information and what is hype? And how can you make sure that the product you buy is actually legal or not?

There can be more questions than answers today about hemp products and CBD oil.

Don’t risk getting the wrong answers to your questions about CBD oil, look to a source you can trust. You want high-quality CBD products you can have confidence in.

But don’t worry, we won’t feed you any false claims about what CBD oil can or can’t do for you. We will answer your questions on CBD, the Kentucky laws, and how to keep yourself on the right side of the legal road.

HISTORY OF CBD AND HEMP

Ancient manuscripts show civilizations thousands of years ago understood the many helpful benefits of hemp. Early colonists grew hemp including George Washington at Mount Vernon.

However, in the 1930s hemp was lumped in with marijuana plants as an illegal substance and became illegal to grow in the United States. It wasn’t until recently that lawmakers have started acknowledging the difference between hemp and marijuana.

Hemp plants containing less than 0.3% THC have been legalized in 2018. After years of being lumped with marijuana as illegal, it is now legal to grow hemp and consume hemp products in all 50 states.

The best way to think about the similarities and differences between hemp and marijuana is to think of them as a family. Hemp and marijuana are like cousins in the cannabis family. They are similar but also have some key differences.

Mainly hemp plants don’t contain enough of the THC compound that will give you the euphoric feeling, also known as a “high.” At the federally mandated levels of 0.3% THC, you won’t get high.

CBD products must follow very strict guidelines when it comes to the level of THC allowed when you purchase from a quality merchant.

CBD OIL AND THE KENTUCKY LAWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Since 2014, the Kentucky legislature has been introducing new laws to make growing hemp legal. The hemp industry is providing vital jobs and an influx to the Kentucky economy that has been very beneficial.

The hemp industry could save the agriculture industry that has seen a decline in tobacco sales. And the hemp plant grows very well in the temperate Kentucky climate. Kentucky legislature permits the growth and manufacturing of hemp plants and products.

As long as your hemp plants have less than the federally mandated 0.3% THC levels, it is legal in Kentucky. Kentucky farmers will still need to register their farm with the state and get special licensing to grow hemp. Their product will be tested by state officials to ensure their compliance with THC levels.

As of March 2020, there is a bill with the state Senate to legalize cannabis for medical use. If HB 136 passes Kentucky will become the 34th state to legalize medical marijuana.

MAKE SURE YOU GET A QUALITY PRODUCT

The CBD industry is still very new and not yet fully understood. At the federal level, it is legal but it’s not regulated by the FDA. As a consumer, it’s up to you to ensure you’re getting a quality product that complies with the laws.

Good companies will test their product at a third-party, independent lab to ensure that their product is pure CBD oil. There will not be any other chemicals laced into the product. And finally, the THC levels will be compliant with federal regulations.

Do your research on any company before you buy any CBD product from them. If they don’t have their lab results listed on their website, ask for them. If they aren’t willing to provide these results, find a company that will.

Remember, the quality companies are making sure their customers are getting a quality product by testing their products at independent and trusted labs. They will make this information available to you, the consumer, to ensure you feel comfortable purchasing and consuming their product.

As a consumer, when you know how to properly read the label, you can protect yourself from inadvertently buying an inadequate or illegal product. Here are some vital things to look for when purchasing your next CBD products:

  • Where it’s grown

  • How they extract the CBD oil

  • How much of the plant is used (ie: seeds only, the whole plant, etc)

  • Full-spectrum versus isolate

Know what to look for so that you make sure you get the best product available. CBD products are very beneficial, but only if they follow the laws and provide the purest possible product.

BLUEGRASS HAS GONE GREEN

The Bluegrass state has gone green and legalized growing hemp products. Now you can enjoy the many CBD products that come from the newly legalized hemp plant.

Hemp products can be very useful. When grown correctly and legally the hemp industry could save the Kentucky agricultural industry.
