CBD Dosage: How Much CBD Do I Need?

CBD doesn’t just make you feel “good.” It may also be able to help manage pain, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve your overall health. But that’s only true if you take the right amount.

The problem is finding the right CBD dosage for your needs can be tricky. It takes time and a bit of effort. We’ve put together this guide to help you learn how to figure out the right amount of CBD you should be taking.

Let’s get started below!

HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD YOU TAKE?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. That’s because there’s no set “dose” for CBD. The amount of CBD one person takes might be too much (or much too little) for another person.  The right dose for you depends on several factors, including:

  • Your height and weight

  • What you’re treating

  • The CBD concentration

On top of that, everyone’s bodies are different. Just because your friend, who has a similar body type as you, is taking 20MG of CBD a day doesn’t mean you should take the same amount.

And your body steadily grows, ages, and changes. Because of this, your CBD dosage might change with your body.

FINDING THE RIGHT CBD DOSAGE FOR YOU

Before you start thinking about your dose size, make sure you know how much CBD is in the product you’ll be taking. Things like gummies, oil drops, capsules, topicals, etc. all have different concentrations of CBD.

You can figure out how much CBD is in a “servicing size” by reading the instructions on the packaging. However, just because the bottle says each capsule has 5MG of CBD doesn’t mean you should only take one. But it’s important to know how much CBD is in each product before trying it.

Once you know this information, you can begin experimenting with your dosage.

ESTIMATE YOUR STARTING DOSE

We say “experimenting” because finding the right dosage for your body does take a bit of trial and error. Since you aren’t sure what the right amount of CBD is for your body, you’ll have to pick a starting amount and adjust it from there.

An excellent way to do this is to go off your weight. You should start by taking about 1MG of CBD for every 10 pounds of weight. In other words, if you’re 130 pounds, you should begin with 13MG of CBD.

However, you may need to increase the dose after trying it. For some people, taking 6MG of CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight is more fitting for their needs.

WORK YOUR WAY UP OVERTIME

You don’t know how your body will react to CBD, so it’s a good idea to start small and work your way up over time. For example, 13MG of CBD may be far too little for a person who weighs 130 pounds, but it’s better to try 13MG first instead of starting with 78MG.

If you aren’t feeling the desired effects from your starting dose, increase it by 5MG for every new dose. (Keep in mind, as you get closer to the right dose, you may have to start adding or taking away fewer grams.) Keep track of how much CBD you’re taking every time and how you feel after each dose. This will help you fine-tune the amount until you find the perfect dose for your needs.

You should also think about why you’re taking CBD. Do you want to relieve physical pain? Calm down your anxiety? Just want to relax? Knowing what you want to treat will help you recognize when the symptoms start to change or become bearable, which can make finding the right dosage easier. Otherwise, it can be hard to tell if the CBD is “working.”

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR

If you aren’t sure where to start (or if you’re just nervous about experimenting with the dosage), you can talk to a doctor. They’ll be able to walk you through any side effects and recommend a good starting point for your needs.

You should also set up an appointment with a doctor if you have any questions or concerns about taking CBD or if you notice anything alarming about your health. This will ensure you stay safe while using CBD.

IS TAKING TOO MUCH CBD DANGEROUS?

The short answer to this question is no.

Humans can tolerate CBD well—even high levels of it. Because of this, you would have to be taking A LOT of CBD (over 1,000MG at least) every day to cause problems. That said, you should talk to a doctor if you want to start taking high amounts of CBD.

In general, though, you shouldn’t have to worry about taking too much CBD.

CAN YOU TAKE CBD WITH OTHER MEDICATIONS?

It depends.

If you’re taking any other medication, you should have a conversation with your doctor first. While CBD is safe, it might not react well with the meds you’re currently taking.

FIGURING OUT THE BEST CBD DOSAGE FOR YOUR NEEDS

Finding the right CBD dosage for you may take some time. Because of this, it’s essential to pay attention to how you feel after every dose and adjust the amount as needed.

Remember to stay patient. While it might take some time to find the perfect dose for your needs, the benefits it will give you are well worth it.
